AI for teams
What is multiplayer AI?
Multiplayer AI is AI that a whole team works with together, in one shared space, instead of each person talking to a private assistant. Everyone can see the conversation, and the AI works from the same context for everyone.
The term is still settling. One manifesto describes teammates taking part in the same agent session. ThoughtSpot uses it for several AI agents coordinating around a shared goal. This page uses the first meaning: people and AI working together.
Single-player AI and multiplayer AI
| Single-player | Multiplayer | |
|---|---|---|
| The conversation | Private to one person | Shared with the team |
| What the AI knows | What that person told it | What the team has shared |
| A good answer | Stays in one chat history | Everyone can see and reuse it |
| Repeat questions | Each person starts again | Asked once, and available after that |
| The AI's work | Seen by one person | Visible to everyone in the chat |
What multiplayer AI needs to work
Putting a chatbot in a group chat is not enough. A team needs:
- A shared space: people and the AI in the same conversation, live.
- Shared context: the team's goals, past decisions and useful answers, kept where the AI can use them.
- Identity: the AI knows who is asking and what they are responsible for.
- Visible work: anyone can see what the AI is doing and how it got there.
- Boundaries: AI team permissions for what the AI may do and who can ask it, and a private place for work that is not ready to share.
Where it falls short
Multiplayer AI raises questions that private assistants do not. The manifesto above admits that no platform meets all of it today, and it names permissions, privacy and accountability as open questions.
- Accountability: when the AI gets something wrong in a team chat, someone still has to own the result.
- Privacy inside the team: people ask different questions when colleagues can read them, so they also need private chats.
- Bad information spreads: a wrong answer saved for the team can be reused, so people need to check what they save.
- Noise: an AI that joins every conversation gets in the way.

A team can hand over a job and chat with company documents in the same conversation. If everything must stay in your building, the on-premise AI assistant gives you shared chats, with fewer of these team features listed today.
How to start with your team
- Pick one team and one repeated job, such as a weekly report.
- Move that job into a shared chat, so people can see how it is done.
- Save what works, and correct what does not.
- Name an owner for the result, even when the AI does the work.
